Newsletter & Website Volunteers

NB We do have volunteers in these positions currently but we are looking for more to spread the load, particularly with our growing use of social media.

We need people to gather Society information for inclusion in our three times a year newsletters, initially to pass on to the current editor but also with a view to becoming an editor or writer for in the future.

Similarly, we want people to act as webmasters and update the website (on WordPress) on a regular basis with WCBS events, stories and photos.

There are currently also a number of different facebook pages to work with and a Twitter account to help manage.

People with writing/journalism skills, IT skills, has a working knowledge of SEO, knowledge and experience of writing for & using social media, all welcome.

Find other voluntary roles at the WCBS: Do-it.org search.

WANTED !

CAN YOU HELP -as a volunteer restorer, skipper, crew member, finance person or trustee?

Restoring and using historic wooden boats takes lots of time and dedication.

The boatyard in Stalybridge never looked so tidy, all ready for Lilith’s turn for a bit of t.l.c.

You don’t even have to live near Ashton under Lyne as fund-raising, membership and newsletter management and various other things can be done online on the comfort of your own settee !!

Looking forward to the emails coming flooding in……………….. or come and see us in person at the General Meeting Wed 12th Aug at 6.45 in the shop at 173 Stamford Street, Ashton. Thanks

AGM

A very useful and interesting AGM was held this afternoon in our Ashton under Lyne charity shop. Last year’s efforts and results were reported on, then we had lunch and then Colin Scrivener, our newsletter editor and a previous owner of our boat Hazel, gave a fascinating illustrated talk on her early years.

Some new volunteers attended and some networking was managed over lunch so it was a very worthwhile event, not just a compulsory meeting which had to be got through.

Colin Scrivener, a previous owner of our boat Hazel, gave a very interesting illustrated talk on her early life. A rapt audience for Colin Scrivener’s illustrated talk on Hazel’s early years. He was a previous owner of Hazel after she’d been converted to a live-aboard boat.

Hazel Mayow and Fiona Dunk chatting after the serious business was overHazel Mayow, our Volunteer Co-ordinator and Fiona Dunk, a Trustee, were first to the lunch table !!!

Annual Report

Hello to all members.

The 2014 Annual Report has been emailed to all members for whom we have a current email address and hard copies will also be available at the AGM on Sunday 26th April. (see the post below for more details of that).

Many members renew annually via their bank but forget to let us know new email addresses and emails are being returned ”failed to send”. If you’re a member and not getting email notifications or newsletters from us, and would like to, please can you contact me – Kath Walls, membership secretary – at kathwcbs@gmail.com or via this website.

This will save us valuable time and money otherwise spent on phone calls or postage  – many thanks for this help.
