Our society’s main asset is our supporters and volunteers. We need you!
Would you like to learn more about…
…Recycling trips, boat rallies, boat sitting, cabin guiding, boat maintenance, roses and castles, old boat engines, how to navigate canal locks safely, acting as crew on a working narrowboat, lofting wood for an existing boat, the heritage of our canal network?
Do you have skills and experience which are valuable to us? Such as:
- Retail management, customer service
- Health & safety
- First aid
Or are you more practical and hands on with:
- Being a crew member
- Gas fitting
- Metal fabrication
- Photography & video
As well as looking after and maintaining our collection of historic wooden canal boats, much of our success depends upon a constant effort from our staff and volunteers to win grants, raise funds and keep our aims in the public eye.
Yes, we need money, but we also need the help and spare time of ordinary people like you.
There are regular boat trips along the canal, as we go on recycling trips for items to sell from the shop, so if you want to help and crew, there are opportunities to do so.
Some like to work in our shop, others like to work outdoors, maintaining the boats. Some like to boat sit overnight and others like to guide the museum’s visitors around our collection of boats.
Some volunteers want to learn new skills in retail shop work, van collections and PAT testing. Other volunteers want to put their existing experience and skills to work on something different because they need a new challenge. One thing is for sure, they all make new friends in the process.
Invest as little or as much time as you like or just follow our activities in our newsletter.
