‘What ??’ I hear you cry !!!
Do not panic. No animals will be harmed during these trips !!
The guinea pigs will be our members, sponsors, funders and volunteers who have been invited to come along as a Thank You on one of Hazel’s first public trips. Our volunteer crew members have had their skills honed to perfection by Chris Leah, Hazel’s skipper and Hazel Mayow, Hazel’s volunteer co-ordinator, and they, plus Anne-Louise Black. Hazel’s Development Officer, have ensured that the boat has had all the tiniest snags on the snagging list de-snagged so – now it’s time.
We shall be running Hazel as a well-being boat for folk who have poor mental health so, of course, we want those trips to be relaxed and trouble-free.
Photos and reports will follow – watch this space.
Hello to all members.
The 2014 Annual Report has been emailed to all members for whom we have a current email address and hard copies will also be available at the AGM on Sunday 26th April. (see the post below for more details of that).
Many members renew annually via their bank but forget to let us know new email addresses and emails are being returned ”failed to send”. If you’re a member and not getting email notifications or newsletters from us, and would like to, please can you contact me – Kath Walls, membership secretary – at email@example.com or via this website.
This will save us valuable time and money otherwise spent on phone calls or postage – many thanks for this help.
There’s a certain little girl who’s going to be very happy on Christmas Day because her mum won the dolls’ house in our raffle on Dec. 1st. So the happy winner’s name is a secret !
Here’s Chris a.k.a. Ashton Boatman doing the draw. Thanks to all who purchased tickets and gave us some much needed funds at this busy time and, of course, a special thanks to Tony Forward who made and donated it.
The Council of Management and all the volunteers would like to give a huge THANK YOU to all members who’ve bought raffle tickets and/or sent donations with their membership money.
Also THANK YOU to all who responded to our appeal on Facebook and have donated via the Donate button on this website. This money has been put in Hazel’s fund and she’s looking pretty good !!
She’ll be in Stalybridge tomorrow, 29th November, showing off her finery at their Victorian Market, being held during the day while waiting for Father Christmas to come and switch on the town lights later.
Hazel will be tucked up back at the boatyard by the time he arrives but it won’t be too long now before she leaves for good to become a well-being boat and it’s thanks to all members, sponsors, donaters and workers and volunteers.
Today we were very pleased to visit Portland Basin to accept a BIG cheque – that’s BIG in size and BIG in value as you can see !!
It’s from Hazel’s new sponsor – Dial2Donate. They say ”At Dial2Donate, we aim to be able to provide support for small, local charities, local organisations and individuals who are in desperate need of help.”
And today they came to prove that by sponsoring Hazel for the whole month of December every year.
Given their telecoms and I.T. experience they will also be able to help with some of our communications issues.
So, many thanks to them from Hazel and her team !!
Today we said a big Thank You to the Romiley, Marple and District Lions club as they came to present their annual sponsor cheque to Chris Leah at the Heritage Boatyard, Stalybridge.
A group of ”Lions” – and their mascot dog, Jess – came to have a look at Hazel’s progress and to hand over their cheque. They are one of the many sponsors of Hazel but probably the oldest.
If you’re interested in helping, you too can sponsor Hazel for one day, one week or one month and your name can be displayed on the calendar. Contact us via this website for more details.
Update December 2014.
Many thanks to all who read this post and donated via the website. Your money has been earmarked to be used for finishing Hazel and that is getting very close now!!!
Our grant from the Lottery is not available for the final finishing of Hazel.
We need money for the last items to complete her fitting out and to pay the boatbuilder who’s working hard on her and overseeing all the volunteers.
Please help by donating – you can use the Donate button and say that you want to help Hazel get finished so that she can become a well-being boat to give much-needed respite trips.
A big thank you has to go out to Arthur and his company Benchmaster Limited http://www.benchmaster.co.uk for the regular donations of wood and metal over recent times especially todays donation which left us with a van and a trailer bursting with wood and metal. It is much appreciated.
