AGM REMINDER

Please don’t forget our Annual General Meeting this coming Sunday, April 24th in the shop at 173 Stamford Street, Ashton under Lyne OL6 7PS.

We need more members to support our work going forward with Hazel now fully operative as Tameside’s only wooden Well-Being boat. Especially a treasurer to work with our new online banking and QuickBooks – training given.

Also general help and folk who can come to monthly Council of Management meetings with a possibility of becoming a Trustee after a period of getting to know each other.

We’ve still got 5 old boats needing care and attention so even if you can only spare small amounts of time on these, do contact us.

Please leave a comment on this post with any questions. THANK YOU – see you on Sunday.

Hazel’s Service Launch

Another proud moment for the Society and all her volunteers, past and present.

Hazel is now well and truly Tameside’s Well-Being boat after being launched on her way by the Mayor of Tameside – seen below cutting the ribbon, with Ashton Boatman (aka Chris Leah) and the Mayor’s wife and mother. After the ceremony they and others went on a short trip down to near Droylsden and back, enjoying lunch on board. Mayor cuts the ribbon

The Mayor was proud to officiate especially as he had been on the committee that gave us a grant, via New Charter’s Great Neighbourhoods scheme.

You too can help Hazel on her journey; most of the folk who will benefit from her, having poor mental health, usually need funding especially for trips like the ones we offer plus, of course, Hazel will have to be kept in tip-top condition for these trips. BECOME A SPONSOR – celebrate a special day every year for just £28 p.a. and help Hazel give those less fortunate a special day on the canals. Download and complete the form below (and let us know if you can offer Gift Aid). Send, together with your cheque, to the treasurer c/o The Wooden Canal Boat Society, 173 Stamford St, Ashton under Lyne, OL6 7PS. Thank you !  If you’ve any queries, just comment on this post or email general@wcbs.org.uk.

UPDATES and BECOME A HAZEL SPONSOR

Just a quick apology for the website having been down recently. We had some maintenance to do and unfortunately the guys at the other end weren’t the quickest to respond.

However, we are now not only up and running with the website but also have some wonderful news about an upcoming Service Launch for Hazel with mayoral ribbon-cutting and speeches (and tea and cake) !!! Come back later to find out more details.

If you’re a sponsor this is your chance to enjoy seeing where all your much appreciated support money is going. If you’re not a sponsor, this is where we really need your support as it’s now vital that Hazel is always in tip-top condition to fulfil her role as Tameside’s Well-Being Boat.

This is a link to the sponsor form or you can just reply to this post   Hazelsponsorform

THANK YOU !!

A day out with some Lions

On Saturday 26th September Hazel left Portland Basin towed by Forgetmenot and travelled up to Marple. On board were some of her sponsors, Colin Scrivener – our newsletter editor – with his friend Angel Monroe plus three Lions ( no rendition of any song will be made here !) The latter were actually John Perkins, Terry Harding and George Tavener from Romiley and Marple district Lions club who are long standing sponsors of Hazel.

On arrival at Marple, where Hazel stayed the night before a return trip on the Sunday, the Lions made a presentation of their annual sponsorship cheque to Chris Leah and the Hazel team.Lions present their 2015 sponsor chq.Anne Louise Black, Hazel Project Manager, Nick Lowther and Dave Wilson, WCBS trustees. Lurking behind is Nigel Carpenter, a trainee crew member.

Without support from such as these, the funding for Hazel would not have had such a good start before our Lottery Grant. Going forward sponsorship is vital as many of our potential clients may not have money or funding to support their much needed trips on Hazel.

PLEASE DO CONSIDER BECOMING A SPONSOR – or, at this time of year, think of it as a present for ”the person who has everything”. Just complete this form  Hazelsponsorform  giving your preferred date and post to the address given with your cheque. If you wish to pay electronically please contact us at general@wcbs.org.uk

Many thanks.

Guinea Pig Boat Trips

‘What ??’ I hear you cry !!!

DSC05877

Do not panic. No animals will be harmed during these trips !!

The guinea pigs will be our members, sponsors, funders and volunteers who have been invited to come along as a Thank You on one of Hazel’s first public trips. Our volunteer crew members have had their skills honed to perfection by Chris Leah, Hazel’s skipper and Hazel Mayow, Hazel’s volunteer co-ordinator, and they, plus Anne-Louise Black. Hazel’s Development Officer, have ensured that the boat has had all the tiniest snags on the snagging list de-snagged so – now it’s time.

We shall be running Hazel as a well-being boat for folk who have poor mental health so, of course, we want those trips to be relaxed and trouble-free.

Photos and reports will follow – watch this space.

Sorry to mention it but …………

…………  it’s that time of year again !

Christmas-tree-decorations-by-specialist-gifts

And that puts a smile on everyone’s face !

Just get in touch with a.black@wcbs.org.uk  for details.

BIG new sponsor for Hazel

Today we were very pleased to visit Portland Basin to accept a BIG cheque – that’s BIG in size and BIG in value as you can see !!

The BIG cheque from Dial2Donate

It’s from Hazel’s new sponsor – Dial2Donate. They say ”At Dial2Donate, we aim to be able to provide support for small, local charities, local organisations and individuals who are in desperate need of help.”

And today they came to prove that by sponsoring Hazel for the whole month of December every year.

Given their telecoms and I.T. experience they will also be able to help with some of our communications issues.

So, many thanks to them from Hazel and her team !!
