Charity Shop

The Wooden Canal Boat Society Shop – Recycling in Action!
The W.C.B.S. shop operates from 173 Stamford Street Central, Ashton under Lyne. From here we sell the goods collected on our recycling trips. We also receive donations of goods from our members and the public.
We sell clothes, bric a brac, books, furniture and collectables as well as lots of other things. We sell everything from the ordinary to the extraordinary!

We try to recycle as much as possible and if the items we receive aren’t saleable in the shop we sell them to rag and scrap merchants.

The WCBS Shop is doing well and despite the economy we’re still receiving lots of donations. Thank you if you’ve helped out on one of our recycling trips or donated items to the shop directly – it all helps! If you would like to make a donation to the shop or help out as a volunteer then please contact us.  Our new Shop Manager Sarah Stevens now works with volunteers and those seeking work experience from employment agencies. Many of the young people who come through the shop as volunteers gain considerable experience and confidence and then go on to secure full time jobs. After several recent changes the shop is busy and we need more supervisory level staff in the shop who also have retail experience. We also need volunteers to work as van drivers and driver’s mates. If you think you can regularly help out on certain days and would like the challenge then please contact us on  0161 330 8422.
The shop is open Monday to Saturday – 9.30am to 4pm.

  1. Hello,
I worked for your charity via the Job Centre scheme too get unemployed into work.
However at the time I had plans too move to Wales and had too terminate early.

I’d just like too thank Sarah for her time and training, I’d like too add that since I finished working for the WCB society I have recently got my self a job at a brand new B&Q store in Aberystwyth. Which would not have been possible if not for my previous work at your shop.

Through this I have truly turned my life around.

I’m hoping too come back up to Manchester within the next few weeks and will certainly come into store and show my thanks personally.
