Three times every month “Southam”, “Forget me Not” and “Lilith” embark on a short trip from Portland Basin to Fairfield Junction in Droylsden. Here we collect unwanted items (clothes, books bric a brac, metals etc) from an established round of houses. The boats then return to Portland Basin. The items collected are then sold in our charity shop in Ashton-Under-Lyne or passed on to scrap merchants.
Recycling trips are normally held on the 1st Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of each month, the only exception being when the dates clash with a bank holiday weekend
You are very welcome to come along but please remember to wear old clothes and sturdy shoes. If you come on Sunday bring a packed lunch.
There is a safety talk before the activities start and if it is your first time you may be asked to read and fill in a form. It is not a good idea to bring young children or pets given the kind of work we’re doing on these trips.
For the same reasons please leave your valuables and electronic gadgets at home too. Our skipper/leader reserves the right to refuse or reject anyone who appears to be unsafe to travel with us.

Volunteer Recycling Leaflet Distributor needed
About a week before each monthly recycling trip, simple photocopied reminder leaflets are put through the letterboxes of everyone within the Droylesden recycling collection area. Each month these leaflets must be prepared, copied, cut to size and then hand delivered. The time commitment is only about 4 hours per month, but we need someone who is reliable as this role is crucial to the collection.
